Asturias is a community that offers us a lot in terms of tourism. If you expect large cities, you can look for another place, because in Asturias you will find some cities that are nuclei that can be visited in a short time. But the best is undoubtedly in its natural spaces. There are many people who decide to make a rural getaway in Asturias.
A rural getaway in Asturias It is one of the best ideas we can have in this place, since it has many charming towns and natural spaces of great beauty, both on the coast and in the interior. We will also see some details about these places that may be interesting.
Taramundi
Between mountains and valleys, near the border with Galicia we are one of the best towns to enjoy rural tourism in Asturias. It is about Taramundi, a town where we will find natural spaces, typical houses with slate roofs and handicrafts. You can visit the Taramundi cutlery to see how the knives are made and to buy some souvenirs. In the Mazonovo area you can see the largest mill museum in the country, with up to 18 restored mills. Nor should you miss the Os Teixois Ethnographic Complex, an XNUMXth century village that today is like a large museum and has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. The nearby town of As Veigas is one of those towns that seem typically Asturian, with its pretty slate roofs, so it offers a pretty picture. In addition, in the surroundings there are several hiking trails, some even recommended if we go with children, so another plan is to get lost in nature.
Bulnes
Bulnes is a small town, the last in Asturias that does not have road access. A long time ago, going up to Bulnes was only possible through the footpath that separates it from the town of Poncebos, which can be reached by car. During winter access was cut off by snow. This place, however, is known by those who enjoy the mountain, since from the town you have access to the well-known Naranjo de Bulnes. Today a funicular has been installed that takes us to this small town in a few minutes, although it is recommended to enjoy the charm of the old route on foot to reach the town, as it is about four kilometers that are done well. Once in town you can enjoy contemplating the landscape and also eating in one of the few restaurants. Today, with tourism activated, there is even some accommodation to stay in. This town is undoubtedly one of the best rural experiences that can be had in Asturias.
Cangas de Onis
Cangas de Onís is another of the jewels of rural tourism in Asturias, but undoubtedly much busier than Bulnes. Part of this council is in the Picos de Europa National Park, within which is the well-known town of Covadonga. Hence this point is so well known to tourists. In Cangas de Onís you have to go through its famous Roman Bridge, although the Victoria Cross is a copy of the one from the XNUMXth century. The center of the town is a beautiful and quiet place, with cozy streets and a square where you can see the church and the statue of Don Pelayo. From this point you almost always travel to visit the well-known Lakes of Covadonga, surrounded by nature. In these lakes there are several routes to cross them and they offer us multiple pictures. Lake Ercina is the most accessible if we don't want to walk to the others. In any case, it must be taken into account that the road to get there is winding.
Cangas de Narcea
This town can boast of being one of the most emblazoned houses and palaces, which is why it is part of the history of Asturias. It is a quiet place in which to enjoy its streets and places like the Monastery of Corias, nowadays a beautiful parador. But the best of this council is found precisely in the nature that surrounds it, in the beauty of its forests. Muniellos is the largest oak grove in all of Spain and can be accessed to reach the lagoons of Pico de la Candanosa. Although being a protected area, visits are limited daily.
Villaviciosa
We end with the interesting town of Villaviciosa, the cider capital of the region. It is here where the Apple Festival is celebrated and it is also a coastal place where you can enjoy yourself during good weather. It has Rodiles beach accompanied by a pine forest. It is also a place where you can enjoy Romanesque and pre-Romanesque buildings such as San Salvador de Valdedios or San Juan de Amandi.
